Day 5

Today was my first official work day. Volunteers were eating breakfast (rice porridge and freshly-squeezed orange juice) at 8 am and out working by 9:15. We were put into groups (root, leaf, flower, and fruit) that take turns cooking and cleaning the kitchen.

Water bathroom cement floor

Today's farming jobs included:
a) weeding and planting leafy greens
b) eliminating invasive (thorny raspberry vines that harm the animals and orange cone flower weeds) by uprooting and burning them
c)creating rebarb frame for the new water toilet bathroom's cement floor

Note:
  • Solar panel is used for batteries, kitchen and dining area lights, the owner's house lights, 1 lodging area's light's
  • How water shower and gas stove/oven are powered by gas brought to farm in tanks. How are the heavy tanks transported in??
  • The owner gets royalties on books she has written and invests this money into the farm
  • Ecuadorian workers get paid to work but some only come if enough volunteers are present
  • Water sources are diverted to gardens and other areas... the community is building a 3-foot deep ditch and planning to lay a pipe to carry the water there. The farm owner is providing her land to help in these efforts.
